There is a new and exciting Session Schedule for the 2014 event, with new activities being introduced to the program as well as keeping some old favourites!

Session Difficulty Rating: Moderate to Hard

Session 1 offers all participants an interactive First Aid lesson titled ‘Back to Basics’ run by the Australian Surf Life Saving organization. The lesson will be a refresher course for those with first aid experience and basic first aid techniques for those who are new to first aid. Following first aid is a scenic 4 hour (8km) Coast Walk with Sydney Coast Walks, the Royal National Park specialists. Enjoy a pleasant walk from Bundeena to Jibbon Point via Jibbon Beach. The Jibbon Point Track to the Coast Track allows participants to enjoy the sweeping ocean views from towering sandstone cliffs.

Session Difficulty Rating: Easy to Moderate

Participants will start their day with the picturesque 2.5 hour (5km) Coast Walk from Bundeena to Jibbon Point via Jibbon Beach and return via Jibbon Loop Track with Sydney Coast Walks. Discover the traditional country of the Dharawal Aboriginal people. Hear stories of their arrival in Australia 50,000 years before Europeans, taste traditional bush tucker and learn about a bygone way of life as we visit one of Sydney’s biggest Aboriginal rock engraving sites located by the coast.

Participants will continue the day with an exhilarating kayak lesson along the Port Hacking River where participants learn kayaking techniques and safety on the water. (Please bring a hat, sunscreen, towel, change of clothes, swimming costumes, sunglasses, water bottle, plastic bag or dry bag and a spray/warm fleece jacket if rain or cold weather is predicted. You should also wear a T-shirt, (either long sleeve or Lycra top, or fleece/wool top on cold days), shorts/bike pants and water-proof sandals or booties).

Session 3 offers participants a variety of activities that are sure to get your adrenaline pumping. Start the morning with a 2.5 hour walk through the Royal National Park with your Discovery Ranger. Participants will then enjoy the scenic views that the Royal National Park has to offer whilst rowing along the Port Hacking River. To finish the day off let your mind and creativity flow with a Landscape Drawing lesson along the banks of the Audley Picnic area. Learn how to create texture, contrast & life into your drawings.

Session Difficulty Rating: Easy to Moderate

Session 4 offers participants the chance to view the Port Hacking River from the water with water sports including the Historic Row Boats, Kayaks & Canoe’s. Glide over the river and enjoy being one with nature. From here get creative and learn the skills of Landscape Drawing. Let your imagination connect with the pencil & paper and watch it develop the skills of a true artist.

The afternoon will be spent with a leisurely stroll through the Royal National Park, learning about how Aboriginal people lived with the land. The duration of this walk is approximately 2 hours long and will also contain a Tools and Weapons display with some bush tucker to try along the way.

Session 5 will start with the picturesque photography walk where great snaps of the Royal National Parks flora and maybe even wildlife can be captured from all the right angles. (Please note that you will be required to supply your own camera). New to Step Out & Get Active for 2014! Take part in this exciting new interactive First Aid ‘Back to Basics’ lesson providing informative knowledge by Australian Surf Life Saving on the importance of knowing first aid, not only for yourself but also caring for others.

In the afternoon participants will take part in a Guided Bush Walk along Lady Carrington Drive with a Discovery Ranger allowing you to take in the beautiful surroundings that the Royal National Park has to offer.

Participants partaking in session 6 will enjoy a fascinating and informative morning with an easy stroll through the Royal National Park where they will learn about how Aboriginal people lived with the land. The 2.5 hour culture walk will also contain a Tools and Weapons display with some bush tucker to try along the way. Next up on the agenda is a ‘Live Well’ Fitness & Talk training program aiming to encourage participants to get active and live a happy and healthy life through sustaining your fitness. Activities include fitness/dance, everyday movement knowledge, strengthening exercises & talks.

Starting the day in session 7 includes is a ‘Live Well’ Fitness & Talk training program aiming to encourage participants to get active and live a happy and healthy life through sustaining your fitness. Activities include fitness/dance, everyday movement knowledge, strengthening exercises & talks.

Following in the afternoon are Self-Paced activities including a Non-Guided bush walk where you can stroll with friends, Guided Bike Ride (Participants must provided their own bike and safety equipment) or just enjoy an extended lunch on Ironbark Flat. The session will finish off with Water Sports where you can choose to glide over the Port Hacking River on one of the Historical Row Boats, Kayaks or Canoes.

Session 8 offers participants the chance to take a scenic and informative History walk of Audley. New to 2014, this History walk takes you on a journey of what Audley was like many years ago and how it has developed into one of our state’s most beautiful parks.

After an easy-breezy morning, participants will take part in an artistic afternoon with a Landscape Drawing lesson, learning the tricks of the trade from a trained Artist and then a photography lesson where you can continue to let your mind flow with creativity as you take snap shots of the day.

The day begins with an exhilarating Kayak or Canoe along the Port Hacking River where participants learn kayaking techniques and safety. After a splash in the river participants will enjoy an interactive Photography Lesson to capture those perfect moments in the Royal National Park you never thought were possible. Enjoy the picturesque views of the Flora and possible wildlife that hide within our parks. Complete your day with a new activity to Step Out & Get Active for 2014! Take part in this exciting new interactive First Aid ‘Back to Basics’ lesson providing informative knowledge by Australian Surf Life Saving on the importance of knowing first aid, not only for yourself but also caring for others.

Session 10 allows you to get creative and learn the skills of Landscape Drawing. Let your imagination connect with the pencil & paper and watch it develop the skills of a true artist. Continue the day with a change of scenery. View the Port Hacking River from the water with water sports including the Historic Row Boats, Kayaks & Canoe’s. Glide over the river and enjoy being one with nature.

The afternoon begins with a First Aid ‘Back to Basics’ lesson with the Australian Surf Life Saving. The lesson will be a refresher course for those with first aid experience and basic first aid techniques for those who are new to first aid. Complete the day with an optional Self-Paced Activity: Guided Bike Ride (participants must provide their own bike and safety equipment), a Non-Guided Bush walk or stroll around Audley or play a game of chess, Bocce or cards.

Whether you wish to come down for a full day or just to enjoy the scenery there’s something for everyone at Step Out & Get Active. This Self-Paced session allows you to plan your own day, pick and choose from the optional activities throughout the day and enjoy the day without schedule. Activities include self-paced Guided Bike Ride, Non-Guided Bush Walk, Water Sports, Chess, Bocce or even just a Picnic.

For those Individuals or Groups who are limited in participating in the above physical activities, Not to Worry! Step Out & Get Active caters for the needs of all seniors. Whether it’s coming to Ironbark flat for a social outing with a Probus Group, Retirement Village or a walking group who likes to journey through Audley at their own pace, there’s something for everyone to be a part of at Step Out & Get Active.
